Overpriced, broke from hinges in NYC winds March 15, 2010 Careful User (Ramsey, NJ, USA) I bought this overpriced umbrella because it was advertised to beat the winds and it didnt exactly do that. I was in NYC and it gets very windy there..and this umbrella broke from the hinges which push and keep the umbrella open. I have seen other reviews describing a similar problem..the hinges dont appear to be well made with a decent quality material and explains why it broke...what a waste of 35 dollars...
I would not advise others to buy this. Why not buy a $10 umbrella so you wont have to regret it when it breaks..
Great umbrella, but not for everyone. March 13, 2010 R. Velasquez (Seattle,) This is an outstanding umbrella, and it works as advertised in the often windy rain of Seattle. I do wish I would have bought the smaller one though for more money. This thing is huge! I'm not a big guy, but I feel like I'm walking around with a parachute! I think I got some lift one time when it was super windy. I'm not a big guy, so I find I am only using this when I know it's a severe storm on the way. Don't take this as a knock on the product itself though. It's a great, ginormous blue umbrella.
A Classic look in a wonderfully sturdy Umbrella. March 9, 2010 J. Francis Great Umbrella stands up to high winds and torrential rain. Has a wonderfully classic look and is also very well balanced. Strong enough to doubles as a light cane (very useful for wet and muddy areas). The 48" size make it perfect for full coverage.
A real working umbrella! March 9, 2010 Jennifer Schultz (KY, USA) After purchasing several "designer" umbrellas that looked great, but performed miserably, I decided to try GustBuster. I now own three GustBusters in varying sizes and they all have worked great in rain and wind. The Doorman style is huge and its size is a luxury for couples, for moms with kids, or for the person who just doesn't want to get wet AT ALL.
The J-hook handle is wonderful for handling and for keeping a firm grip during extremely windy conditions. Smaller sizes work equally well and obviously are more portable.
These are the workhorses of umbrellas! My only complaint is the tacky GustBuster-branded label that is blatantly obvious on the opened umbrella. This label is what reminds you that you own a "Golf" umbrella as opposed to a dressier umbrella.
Lives up to the marketing February 18, 2010 Bemace (Minnesota) I've had this umbrella for a year now and it was definitely a good purchase. It's not indestructible, but it is a very nice, tough umbrella. I've had a couple other umbrellas destroyed by the wind while walking to work, but this one has never come close to inverting. The vented top lets wind pass through while keeping you dry, and it makes life a lot more pleasant when you're not straining to hold on to your umbrella. It's also an all around well made and nice looking umbrella. I think the plastic ribs will hold up a lot better than the folding metal struts used on other umbrellas thanks to their flexibility.
